Frequently Asked Questions

Since you’re working with me virtually and not in person, how do you assess my issue and recommend a plan?

I’ve been working with clients online since 2018. I had so many people and sports organizations that needed someone specializing in running and hiking reaching out to me from different parts of the country/world that I started seeing them virtually. The way I work with clients is based on watching them move, using movement assessments, and asking the right questions - all of which can be done online. In fact, I’ve been called the movement detective, Jedi, problem-solving witch, and a magician…more than once.

As one client said recently, “It was much easier to learn which movements to do and how to do them than I expected”

Does it really make that much of a difference to see someone who specializes in runners/hikers?

Yes! It makes a big difference. For example, if a runner is having more knee pain with going uphill - that tells a specialist exactly where to focus (for those that like to nerd out…this tells me the gluteus maximus muscle is a key area to test). Whereas someone with a different specialty may default to “hmm…maybe take a few weeks off and try running again” or “try this list of generic knee exercises and see how the pain is again in 6 weeks” when the time off from running may have never been necessary.

As a specialist in hiking and running, I can even help you tweak your form and find the perfect shoe. Most PT’s don’t know this but modifying your form alone can result in 20% less pressure on your knees!

Am I going to keep being able to run or hike? It's what keeps me sane and is my stress relief.

Most clients come to me because they want to continue running, hiking, adventuring etc. and other professionals have not been able to help them. When you work with me we’ll put together a custom return to running or hiking plan that includes strength and mobility exercises to reduce the pain so you can get back to running or hiking ASAP while increasing your mileage to get you back to where you were and beyond!

What are your qualifications?

I’m a Doctor of Physical Therapy and Coach who’s worked with professional sports organizations, Olympians, thru-hikers in their 70’s, ultramarathoners, 5K runners in their 80’s and everyone in between - to help them get back to their favorite workouts when they thought that pain or limitations would mean they’d have to give it all up. You can read about my qualifications here.

What sort of equipment do I need?

You'll need a laptop or iPad and some empty floor space - that's it! I'll guide you through the rest.

I can typically create a plan for you that’s bodyweight-based only but if you’re open to purchasing a few small items (bands, balance pad, etc.) to optimize your plan- I'll send you exactly what you need to order.

How often do you meet with clients?

Part of working with me means that your plan is fully custom, that means how often I meet with clients does vary. However, there are some trends.

Most clients I see 1-2x/month, depending on your goals, preferences and what I recommend to see optimal progress. I can give you a definitive answer regarding frequency and what I recommend after we speak.
