Hip Pain…Decoded.

At a loss for what’s causing your hip pain?

You’re in the right place!

Let’s clear up some of the mystery around hip pain during exercise by explaining the way that hips connect to the rest of the body.

Loss of hip extension

This is the type of mobility that is required for your leg to extend back behind your body. This movement is crucial for walking and running. If we start to lose mobility in this direction, the front of the hip will have to work even harder, which can cause her pain overtime. The solution here is learning to incorporate Exercises in Mobility in this direction so that the hip can balance back out and you can get back to doing the workouts you love and feeling great!

Hip rotation mobility

Did you know your hips rotate 90°? That’s a lot, Ha? If we start to lose Mobility or support in this direction, are low back’s, knees and hips will have to work much harder. There are exercises that you can learn to start to incorporate this type of mobility, strength and support into your daily routine and your workouts!

I’ll attach a video for my favorite hip rotation drill below!

Calf and hamstring support

Did you know hip pain can actually come from your calves or hamstrings?! This is called posterior chain activation and it’s especially important for runners, hikers and walkers - the strength in your calves can directly affect how your hips feel with walking and running!
